License keys

Radios manufactured for the US market are prevented by the in-built firmware in the radio from manually tuning within the US cellular radiotelephone service bands. These bands are later refered to as 'cellular bands'.

Radios manufactured for use in other than the US market are not prevented by the in-built firmware in the radio from manually tuning within the cellular bands.

There are two types of license keys; standard and international.

A standard license key prevents attempts to load memories containing frequencies within the cellular bands into radios manufactured for the US market. If the radio is manufactured for any other market then the attempts are not prevented. This is the type of license that is automatically issued when a purchase is made from an internet reseller.

An international license does not prevent attempts to load memories containing frequencies within the cellular bands into radios manufactured for the US market. This type of license is only issued personally by the author on request by existing licensees who have US-market radios but who live in regions of the world that are not subject to the US regulations.
