FTBasic runs on a standard PC that has an available serial port for connection to the transceiver. It has been developed and tested on Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Home Edition, and should also run successfully on Windows 95/98/ME and Windows/NT4.

The program will detect the international character used for the decimal point and format numbers accordingly.

The FT-847 and VR-5000 requires a standard 'Null modem' cable with a female 9-pin connector at the rig end; the FT-920 requires a straight serial cable with a male 9-pin connector at the rig end; the FT-1000MP Mark V requires a straight serial cable with a female 9-pin connector at the rig end. The other rigs require a level converter - usually a Yaesu CT-62 for the recent rigs. Refer to your handbook for the correct cabling, and here for further connection details.
